Marist Week In New Zealand

Marist Week is well- established on the annual calendar of Marist Primary Mt Albert.  This year a house system has been introduced which has added to the children’s enthusiasm for their heritage.  The houses are named Pompallier – the first bishop of New Zealand who arrived with the Marist missionaries in 1838, Chavoin foundress of the Marist Sisters, and the two Marist Sisters pioneers in New Zealand Mother Bernard and Sister Austin. A range of activities took place over the week including visits of all the classes to the Marist Sisters’ chapel to pray, classroom visits by the sisters who were able to talk about their knowledge of Mother Bernard and Sr Austin, participation in the school Mass on the feast of the Assumption, Assembly and morning tea with the staff. A Marist Spirit award has been instituted and the first two recipients are pictured with the sisters.
