Who Are We

To be Marist is to have a sense of being called and chosen by Mary. The mission of the Marist Sisters flows from their Charism.   They take Mary as their model.  Marists endeavour to think, judge, feel and act in a new way, the way of Mary.  It involves a deep relationship with Mary as a living person rather than emphasis on particular devotions to her. Their mission is in living their faith in Jesus as Mary did and seeking to have her attitudes towards people.

The mission of the Marist Sisters in the Church is to help build a community in which Mary's merciful love is experienced - a one characterized by compassion, contemplation and relationship, a community that welcomes all to Jesus Christ.

Mary was present at the birth of the Church as its support. She wishes to be present today through those who live her spirit and do her work of gathering the whole world to her Son, and, being touched by God's mercy, become united - one in heart and mind.

Marists are part of something greater. The first Marists called it "the work of Mary”. This expression has a rich meaning:  that Mary wants all people to experience the mercy of God.
